Voli

Voli is a self-initiated UI kit that considers the needs of podcast listeners and creators within the same mobile product. Alongside discovery and playback, it covers guest invitations, remote recording, and episode-cover preparation.

Context & problem

The main design problem was supporting two different jobs in the same navigation. Listeners wanted to find and play content quickly, while creators needed more tools to set up a session, track participants, and prepare an episode for publishing.

On the listening side, the relationship between shows and episodes had to work alongside saved, downloaded, and subscribed states. During recording, elapsed time, active speaker, connection status, and the stop action had to remain visible throughout the session.

I therefore structured the work as two connected journeys rather than a set of independent screens: listening from discovery to saved content, and creation from preparation to multi-participant recording.

Design approach

  • I organised the information architecture around listening, search, recording, saved content, and profile tasks. Placing record at the centre of the tab bar made the transition into creator mode explicit.
  • Discovery separates categories, popular shows, and trending episodes into distinct content groups. Cover art, title, and publisher information are designed to be read together.
  • The player is more than playback controls: download, save, and episode navigation remain available in the same listening context.
  • The library is divided into shows, episodes, and downloads. Show detail connects subscription state with the episode list in one content hierarchy.
  • The recording screen keeps elapsed time, the active speaker, and each guest’s connection state persistent. Invitations and imported audio remain available without leaving the session.
  • The stop action is separated from other controls by colour and position to reduce the consequence of an accidental tap during a live session.
  • Publishing preparation brings image upload, cover search, typeface, alignment, and colour controls into the same editing flow.

Deliverable: the screens and core states required for discovery, playback, subscription, saved content, cover preparation, and multi-participant recording were defined within one mobile UI kit.

Discovery and episode playback · Saved shows and episode detail · Podcast cover preparation and multi-participant recording
